I guess, technically, that “snowed in” isn’t exactly true. We’ve accumulated approximately zero inches here in NYC, but it’s been hella cold. Like…wearing-tights-under-jeans-even-when-I-sleep cold. Like…take-Uber-instead-of-walking-four-blocks cold. Like…shopping-isn’t-worth-it-because-there’s-no-central-mall cold. Yeah, you read that right, I’m too cold to shop. And, I know I promised everyone some ideas on how to stay home without losing your mind, so here’s what I’ve got:
1. Plan a vacation. Jake and I literally did not leave the apartment yesterday; instead, we spent the evening booking our flight and hotel room in San Juan! Yay! It took some navigating, but the hunt for the best price is half the fun. That said, even if you can’t afford to book anything right this second, you can use this time to open a savings account where you can start putting money away. Every little bit counts, you know.
2. Clean. This can be quick and painless, or a little more extensive. I know it doesn’t sound like fun, but if you have the right music and some instruction, you’ll have an unrecognizably spotless home before you know it. Plus, you can’t beat that “I accomplished something!” feeling.
3. #TreatYoself. Do whatever it is that makes you feel special. For me, it’s a little online shopping and deep conditioning treatment. And an embarrassingly long Netflix binge. (The Newsroom, you were gone too soon).
4. Practice something you’ve been putting off. Whatever it is — learning another language, putting together an online portfolio, meditating your anxiety away — now is literally the best time in the world to do it.
Normally, I would add work-related things to a list like this, but I’m making an effort to disconnect when I’m not at the office, otherwise I will literally never make friends/eat dinner/go to sleep. Will update later this week with some spring things I’m very excited about!
