A Sad Day

Today is a really crappy day. Not crappy because of the weather, or because of the fact that classes resume tomorrow, but crappy because after months of deliberation, I had no choice but to give away my two babies: Patch and Albus.

A close friend of mine from high school agreed to adopt them – thank goodness – but I can’t help feeling heartbroken and guilty. Albus, the younger one, is already fine and settled in. He’s curious, adaptable, and exceptionally friendly with anyone who pets him for more than two seconds. Patch, on the other hand, has been my best friend since I moved to Litchfield 11 years ago. He comes when I call, meows along when I sing, and always make sure to sit with me when I cry. It physically hurt my chest to say goodbye and close the door this afternoon.

I know all this fuss over pets makes me a cat lady, and I know my friend will take magnificent care of them, but it’s going to be a rough night without the little creatures purring next to me.
