Oh, hi, best day ever…I didn’t see you there.
Remember how I mentioned that I have the best job ever? Yeah? Well it has never been truer. In addition to the bunches of other amazing, successful, and fascinating people I’ve had the good fortune of meeting, I spent a couple hours yesterday with Karen Allen.
Yeah, no, the Karen Allen. I guess most of you may know her as Marion Ravenwood in Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark, Katy in Animal House, Melissa Brown in The Perfect Storm, the mother in The Sandlot, etc.
However, I wasn’t there to discuss her extensive film and theater career. Instead, she and I discussed her small shop – Karen Allen Fiber Arts – in Great Barrington, Massachusetts.
Karen was nothing but wonderful. She responded to my inquiries with enthusiasm, laughter, eloquence, and patience. I found myself smiling, giggling in agreement, and nodding my head, absolutely fascinated by her. I couldn’t believe my luck. She even answered my questions about Harrison Ford and let me take a picture!
As I got back in my car at the end of the interview, I immediately texted Jake: We must watch Raiders of the Lost Ark. He gave no complaints. We spent last night cuddled up on the couch, watching Marion sass her way around Egypt and drink men under the table. Needless to say…I’m a fan.
My favorite photo of Karen from the afternoon:
On that note, I’m off to write the Style column about her for Passport Magazine. I’ll be posting later this week with my favorite Birchbox items, some journalism tips, and a favorite distraction. xoxo
