Fourth of July, Sonia & Daniel, and Article No. 2

I know, I know, I’ve started to stink at posting. In my defense: I have another four articles to write and three interviews to conduct in the next two weeks before I leave for Israel. So…many…words.

First of all: Happy Independence Day! (two days late). Hope you all celebrated this magnificent country by enjoying the beautiful weather, attending concerts, spending time with family, and probably consuming a little too much of a certain beverage. I hate to sound cliché, but I truly love America and hope that everyone at least paid their respects, at least in thought.

Second: have I mentioned I love my job? Yesterday, I had the opportunity to interview the inspirational beauty guru Sonia Kashuk and her husband, Daniel Kaner, co-President of Oribe Hair Care. We (the LCT) got a tip from a friend that the two have a fabulous summer home here in CT, so we jumped at the chance to feature this beauty power couple in our upcoming fall magazine. And I was asked to write it. Trés chic, no?

In any case, I spent yesterday afternoon with the two of them and their indescribably cute poodle, Jezebel. Words do not do justice to how much this dog loves them. Truly. When she wasn’t sprinting back and forth from the door every time it opened, she was curled up next to them on the couch.

Their home is decorated with pieces of artwork and furniture from around the world; I think the best way to describe it is modern elegance. Scattered in-between the picture-perfect interiors of each room are family photos and reminders of their success and happiness. Though I didn’t get to meet their children, they seem a close and happy family. I think it’s worth mentioning that they celebrated a 20th wedding anniversary this week! And for people who have gained such success already…Sonia and Daniel are as humble, grateful, friendly, and welcoming as ever. I will be singing their praises while writing today!

My favorite photo from the day…

The happy couple and their happy dog!

If all this wasn’t exciting enough, my second article was published this week! Hooray! You can find the piece on the LCT website (here). I think we can all agree it’s better than the first, though the first wasn’t a complete disaster. I feel so blessed to be able to meet so many exciting people, learn about their lives, and then be a part of their success. This whole internship has been a dream; I’m both excited and horrified to recognize that it’s almost halfway over.

And before I go, here’s a little something to keep you hanging in there on this beautiful Friday morning…

  • Additional 30% off summer sales at JCrew…code: MUSTHAVE.
  • Check out this amusing, affectionate, and eloquent ode to Nora Ephron by Abigail Pogrebin.
  • For those of you in the Providence area, Tall Heights is playing tonight (to be joined by Darlingside and The Famous Winters) at Fete. GO.
  • Pick up a bottle of Hawaiian Tropic tanning lotion. Preferably SPF 4-8. I have light skin, and this stuff guarantees the perfect summer glow after a day at the beach, without the painful sunburn. (Bonus: it smells like coconut, and there’s a $1.00 coupon available on the website).

Finally, in case you’re looking for a laugh…

Happy weekend! xoxo
