The LCT, NYC, and the beginning of a beautiful summer

As of last week, I have officially started my summer internship at the Litchfield County Times. Though I am a lowly editorial intern, I was immediately given a pleasantly surprising amount of independence and responsibility…including my own desk! The proof is in the picture.

Here’s my lovely little corner of the office, complete with a café mocha from the coffee shop across the street.

I was also assigned to check and organize the event list for the summer, copy edit multiple sections of the Litchfield County Times Magazine, develop a list of personal goals for the next few months, and write a feature article about the pop-up art gallery happening in town next month. I’m most excited about the latter, obviously, but I’m actually thoroughly enjoying myself with all of the above.

I spent Friday night with my boyfriend, babysitting the six most wonderful children I know. Their ages range from 1-13…in order of youngest to oldest: Paulina (1), Izzy (3), Mary (5), Lucy (7), Brian (8), and Sarah (13). We ate pizza, played piano, made a couch bed, and inevitably trashed the downstairs of my house. By some miracle, nobody had an accident and nothing was permanently broken. Success!

After my first two days at the office, I spent the weekend with family and drove into NYC for a tourist-y Sunday. We enjoyed a beautiful walk on the High Line (something I highly recommend to anyone living in or touring the Manhattan area), an amusing tour of Madam Tussaud’s Wax Museum, an exhilaration stroll through Times Square, and a delicious dinner at Moran’s. Some photos of the day…

I can’t decide if I like this version better, or the original.

Times Square in all its summer, instagram-ed glory.

On that note, I’m off to brainstorm some interview questions for that article I mentioned. Keep an eye out for my name in next week’s issue of the Litchfield County Times Magazine!

Ciao!
